When tragic circumstances arise in psychiatric practice, such as a natural disaster or the psychiatrist’s sudden death or incapacity, patient care must continue. Many psychiatrists do not make contingency plans. Staff or family members can be left to the task supporting patient care without guidance – adding an extra burden to those already grieving and putting patients at risk. During this program we will explore resources and issues that should be addressed in a contingency plan to lessen the stress to you, your family, your staff, and your patients during an unexpected transition.
